Triple Spruce Balm
Spruce is typically the first evergreen I visit in the Winter months, due to its associations with the Dead and inclinations to ancestor work, which tends to be my focus during the first half of Winter. I associate this tree with Saturn, although Greek myth associates it with Artemis, goddess of the Moon. The leaves and resin are mildly analgesic, as well as antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, and disinfectant, making them a great panacea against all kinds of ailments.
This Triple Spruce Balm was concocted over a period of weeks, creating a threefold infusion of Black Spruce resin, leaves, and wood in Grapeseed oil. This balm may be rubbed into sore muscles and aching joints to relax the muscles and alleviate inflammation, or rubbed into the chest to aid cases of rheumatism and congestion. It may be applied to cuts and abrasions to help in healing and preventing infection, and I have found that it works excellently to treat irritated body jewelry and facial piercings. It is also excellent for healing dry, cracked skin.
Magically speaking, Spruce balm may be used in all operations concerning the Dead, Wandering or Beloved; use it to anoint effigies, vessels, and charms dedicated to them. It can be applied to the body prior to summoning Shades or communing with the Ancestors, and I have found it especially effective when working with Saint Lazarus for this purpose. It can also be applied to the body after heavy necromantic operations, or before entering the cemetery, to cleanse the body and spirit and prevent spirit-sickness or parasitic shades attaching themselves to the body. This balm may also be used when working with the Witches' Devil and the spirit of Magpie, as this tree is beloved by both. Otherwise, it may be applied to the doorways, windows, and other entrances to the home to bring blessings and peace to the household, and it is good practice to anoint the door to the room of one who is recovering from illness to ensure that the rest of the household remains healthy.
Spruce resin, Spruce leaves, Spruce wood, Grapeseed oil, Beeswax.
2oz amber glass jars. Sold as curio only.
